Of course I couldn’t wait to find out! Funny thing is, I always thought I would. But from the moment I agreed with Tony that we could find out, I couldn’t wait!

I totally understand why people choose to wait to find out, what an exciting surprise! But here are my reasons for finding out;
Handy hand-me-downs
I am lucky enough that my sister had her first baby, a little boy, just a few months before I found out I was pregnant. In fact, my first nephews first birthday is the day before my due date! And Tony’s best friends also had just had their first, a little girl. Both have kindly offered us to pass on items. So it was useful to be able to let them now which clothes/items to keep aside for us.
Planing Pea
Oh, I do like to be organised! Knowing if we were having a boy or girl made it so much easier to think about things like nursery design/themes, names and clothes.
Taking it in
Having not been through labour before, I have no idea what to expect really. It could be a breeze (fingers crossed, but unlikely o think!) or it could be bloody hard work, tiring, painful, exhausting, scary and in general a draining emotional experience, all by itself. Let alone then, after going through labour, having to take in finding out something so important as if your baby is a boy or a girl.
Getting it wrong
Imagine thinking all through your pregnancy you were having a boy, and then being presented with a girl! Or vice verse. After the physical and emotional effort of labour as it is, that would be a lot to deal with! And everyone loves to tell you what they think you’re having! Even in the few weeks before our early gender scan, I was told I was definitely having a boy because of my lack of morning sickness, or it was probably a girl because of my preference for sweet over savoury.

We also decided that we would record our reaction, and I’m so glad we did. Although be warned if you chose to do this, it does mean missing quite a bit of the scan, as they need to turn the screens off so you don’t see bits by accident! It was so lovely to have a forever keepsake of how excited we both were, this video is literally bursting with happiness …
The other benefit of the private scans is the extras which you can get. We got a usb with so many pictures and even little video clips of little baby pea wriggling around. But my favourite by far was the recording of the placenta which we got in a bear. It is meant to help soothe baby once they arrive by making them feel back at home ❤️
Are you finding out of yours is a girl or boy? Let me know, and your reasons why ☺️
Love and peas,
